SCENE I
Scene moves between maintenance bay, corridor, and Command.
Maintenance bay, John talks into his tape recorder.
JOHN: It's always the same here, Dad, nice and quiet.
Zhaan and Chiana bicker as they travel down the corridor.
ZHAAN: Chiana, what is this?
CHIANA: I don't know!
ZHAAN: Look at it, please.
CHIANA: Well, I -
ZHAAN cuts in: It's my Bassan Oil!
CHIANA: What?! I didn't take it!
ZHAAN: I found it in your chamber, dear.
CHIANA: Yeah, well maybe it just....okay, so I took it. Arrest me.
ZHAAN: Look, Chiana, when we agreed to let you stay on Moya you -
CHIANA: I won't do it again-
ZHAAN: You promised to adapt to our ways.
CHIANA: I've changed my mind! You adapt to me!
ZHAAN: You promised!
CHIANA: I've changed my mind!
JOHN: Yeah, it's always the same here, Dad, nice and quiet.
He chuckles slightly, and stretches his neck.
JOHN: It's late. No. It's space. I don't really know what time it is. It's uh....I miss the sun. Days. Nights. Simple things. Anyway, I um...[clears throat] wanted to tell you about this thing.......I'm uh...holding here right now. It's - it's my first gray hair. Yeah, I-I wouldn't mention it, it's just that......I'm afraid I might be growing old out here.
PILOT on comm: John Crichton. You'd better get up here.
John snaps off the tape recorder.
JOHN: [whispers] Can't deal with this.
He exits and later enters Command.
RYGEL: Why've the engines stopped?
JOHN: Okay, Pilot, I'm here. What's the problem this time?
PILOT on clamshell: Moya hasn't sensed anything like this....since the day you arrived.
John looks out and sees a wormhole.
JOHN: Pilot, how long has that been there?
PILOT: It just appeared on my scanners. But it's already breaking apart. Stability's down to eighty percent.
Chiana enters.
RYGEL: What are you up to, Crichton?
JOHN: Rygel, you see this? Do you see this?
CHIANA: What is that?
RYGEL: That is a pathetic little waste funnel, of which I care little about. We're supposed to be on our way to the Commerce planet. Where I believe they have Hynerian Marjools.
CHIANA: Is he the Captain? Because if he's not the Captain, then how does he get to stop-
JOHN cuts in: That-that is...a wormhole!
RYGEL: Yeah, yeah, now re-start the engines, if you please.
CHIANA: What if I wanted to stop the ship?
PILOT: Crichton! Look at this!
JOHN: Oh my God.
RYGEL: What? It's just a tiny blue planet. What are you getting so worked up about? Ah, it's got no particle rings, no red moons!
CHIANA: It's hardly unimpressive.
JOHN: That's Earth.
He's looking at the wormhole as is spins and sways. Earth can clearly be seen at the other end.
JOHN: That's my home.
SCENE II
Aeryn sits quietly against the wall. John approaches and crouches down to her.
AERYN: You're going, now?
JOHN: Yeah. Yeah, Pilot says we're runnin' out of time.
AERYN: I can't go with you.
JOHN: Aeryn...this could be our only chance.
AERYN: No, this is your only chance. I'm not certain I'll belong there.
JOHN: You would, you will, I-I promise.
AERYN: [shakes head slightly] I'm sorry.
PILOT: Crichton, wormhole stability down, to fifty seven percent.
JOHN: I'm on my way.
He exits. He enters the maintenance bay, where Zhaan and Rygel are waiting.
ZHAAN: That wormhole could blast you out, anywhere.
JOHN: I know.
ZHAAN: Pilot says it's unsafe and it could -
John checks over his module.
JOHN cuts in: It could kill me, Zhaan, I know. You've given me every good reason not to go. I could end up dead, I could end up more lost than I already am....you've given me every single thing except one.
ZHAAN: [shakes head] What?
JOHN: This could be Earth. This is the way I got here, through a wormhole. Could be my way home. I gotta do this, Zhaan. Look, however this works out, this could be goodbye. And uh, I know that you didn't expect me to be here. But thanks. You saved my life. All of you.
PILOT: Crichton, stability down to forty eight percent.
JOHN: Yeah, I'm goin', Pilot.
D'argo enters. He has John's bag. He shoves Rygel out of the way as he approaches. He hands John the bag.
JOHN: Goodbye, big guy. I um...I hope you get your chance one day. You go see your son.
D'ARGO: I hope so, too.
D'argo extends his hand. They shake.
D'ARGO: Goodbye. John.
John approaches Zhaan and touches her on the side of the face. She does the same to him.
ZHAAN: John Crichton. Remember. There's a part of me, inside you. [whispers] Take care of it.
JOHN: I will.
He wipes away a tear that's running down her face. He steps up to Rygel.
JOHN: Sparky.
RYGEL: What?
Aeryn looks in from the edge of the doorway.
JOHN: You're not takin' my stuff.
RYGEL: Mm?
JOHN: So I thought I'd give it to somebody.
RYGEL: Hmm.
JOHN: To Aeryn.
RYGEL: No! No, you can't do -
Rygel stops short as he sees John's wide grin. Rygel laughs.
John looks across the bay at Aeryn in the doorway. They stare at each other for several seconds.
JOHN: Goodbye.
Aeryn fights off the tears and exits.
John's module shoots out of Moya. He maneuvers it over the wormhole, but doesn't yet enter it.
PILOT on comm: Thirty nine percent stability.
JOHN: I am doing this as fast as I can, Pilot.
He pushes buttons and flips switches.
The crew looks on.
PILOT: You're almost at entry vector. Just a little more.
John watches the information on his screen.
PILOT: Now. Go now, Crichton! Entry angle confirmed! Go!
ZHAAN: What's the matter with him?
RYGEL: Just go, you lucky probacto. Go.
D'ARGO: Crichton.
JOHN: Yeah, D'argo.
D'ARGO: I understand the fear. But if you don't do this now, you will regret it forever. You must go, now. Do it, John.
PILOT: Thirty four percent.
JOHN to D'argo: Thanks big guy.
John looks at the ring his dad gave him on the fateful day that brought him to that point.
JOHN: [whispers] Okay. Wish me luck.
He wraps the chain the ring is on, around his control stick. He finally enters the wormhole.
D'ARGO: John. Can you hear me?
ZHAAN: Pilot, are you reading anything from him?
PILOT: He's....off my sensors. He's gone.
D'argo and Rygel lower their heads. Zhaan prays and Aeryn looks on sadly.
John plummets down the wormhole, in the same way that he arrived.
JOHN: Pilot, are you tracking me? Pilot?
He continues to travel down the wormhole, until he's encased in a bright white light.
The light becomes a blaring sun, over a gorgeous beach. The module sits on the beach, smoking slightly. John opens the hatch. He looks up into the bright sky, and exits the module. He lets himself fall flat onto his back, in the sand. He laughs heartily.
JOHN: Helloooo skyyyyyyyyyyyy!
Later. A woman walks along the beach. John approaches her.
JOHN: Excuse me! Miss! Look, I know this is - this is gonna sound insane, but.....this is Australia. Right?
She only stares at him and seems a little afraid.
JOHN: What?
He hears a helicopter, and turns. Topping the hill behind him, are several soldiers.
JOHN: Hey! Guys! Where you been?
He notices that they have their weapons trained on him. Another man approaches (Wilson). He's not in military clothes, but in a dress shirt and slacks. He also pulls a weapon on John.
JOHN: Woah, woah, woah, wait, I'm John Crichton!
Wilson fires on him. A dart hits him in the leg. John pulls it out and looks at it. He throws it down and starts to run. He doesn't make it very far, before he's stumbling. He falls onto his back. He rolls almost all the way onto his stomach, eyes rolling back into his head.
John lays on an exam table in a white room. Several people surround him, dressed all in white, examining him. They draw blood and look him over thoroughly.
Wilson interrogates him. They've locked him in a containment cell. All glass and heavy concrete.
WILSON: Let's go again. So why did you land in Australia?
A soldier photographs John during the interview.
JOHN: I didn't land. I crashed.
WILSON: And what is your mission, here?
JOHN: What are you talking about? I don't have a mission.
WILSON: Have you been here, before?
JOHN: I'm John. Crichton. You know that, Wilson. What? Wait a minute, you-you think I'm an alien?!
WILSON: [laughs] Have you been here, before?
JOHN: Australia. Yeah. Three times. You were here with me, last year, when I tested the Farscape's engines, Wilson. So what the hell is going on?!
Later. An darkly skinned man sits in front of the cell, speaking in a native language.
JOHN: This is the twelfth guy, Wilson. How many more are you gonna roll in here, before you believe these are translator microbes in my head, and not some...space virus?
WILSON: What did he say?
JOHN: Well...I think he said, that....until he gets some answers...he's not gonna play anymore.
John rolls back the chair he was sitting in, gets up, and sits as far back in the cell as he can go.
Later. John rides his chair back and forth in the cell. A soldier (Cobb) sits outside, reading the newspaper.
JOHN: Hey, Cobb. When am I gettin' out of here?
COBB: I don't know.
JOHN: [sighs] Don't know. Can I get a newspaper? Oh, come on, Cobb! When am I gonna find oooout? I mean...look, I been away, for what'd you say, seven months? I just wanna know, what's happened. Something, since I've been gone. Who won the Super Bowl, Cobb?
Cobb raises his head and stares at nothing, for several seconds.
COBB: I don't know.
JOHN: I know you're Australian, Cobb, but you gotta know who won the Super Bowl! You know who Ty Cobb is, Cobb? No? How 'bout - how 'bout Babe Ruth? You know who Babe Ruth is?
COBB: Some fat guy that played for the Yankees.
JOHN: Good! Fat guy! At least you know something!
Wilson looks over some sketches of John's descriptions of his experiences while he was gone. He looks at one of Rygel, in particular.
WILSON: You're kidding me!
SKETCHIST: This is how he described them.
SOLDIER: I'm sorry, Sir, there's no access! Stop Sir!
JACK: Out of my way!
SOLDIER: This is a restricted area, Sir!
JACK: Back off, soldier!
WILSON to Cobb: Kill that switch!
JOHN: Dad!!
Cobb reaches over and cuts off the speaker to John's cell. He continues to yell for his dad.
JACK: I've waited two days! I wanna see him! I wanna see my son, now!
WILSON: Jack, that's what we're trying to determine. Whether it is your son.
JACK: What've you done to him?
WILSON: He's got foreign microbes in his brain stem. And the Farscape module has been modified by non-human technology. You know how this works, Colonel. Once we confirm John poses no threat, then you can see him.
JACK: I don't buy that, I want to see him now!
They open the cell and let him in.
JOHN: Dad. Get me out of here, please.
JACK: I need to ask you some questions.
John ruffles at the idea that his own dad would want to ask him questions. A silence passes between them.
JACK: What happened on your tenth birthday?
JOHN: What? Tenth birth-?
Jack nods.
JOHN: I don't know. I can't remember.
JACK: We were living in Annapolis.
JOHN: Annapolis? Right. You were late.....again.
JACK: Why?
JOHN: You said.......[sighs]...you said they held you at Houston for tests. You missed your flight. But you commandeered a jet and you came, anyway.
JACK: [nods] I woke you up at four o'clock in the morning.
JOHN: You took me fishing.
Jack nods.
JOHN: At Sawyer's Mill.
JACK: And you caught the biggest damn bass I'd ever seen.
JOHN: It was a trout, Dad.
JACK: [nods] It was a trout. I missed you, son.
They embrace in a tender hug. Jack sighs in relief.
JOHN: [softly] What's going on? I know recovery procedure as well as anyone. This is way beyond routine.
JACK: Nothin's been routine since the day you left, seven months ago. That wormhole you went through, is still there. You opened a door, son. A door to Earth we don't know how to close.
JOHN: [whispers] Get me out of here.
JACK: Yes, I will.
Jack and John stand on a pier by the beach.
JOHN: I don't buy this, Dad.
JACK: What?
JOHN: Wilson. Letting me out. There's no way he'd...let me out of his sight, if what you say is true.
JACK: You know Wilson?
JOHN: Yup. Know Cobb, too.
JACK: He hasn't let you out of his sight, son. See that van in the parking lot? Those two women to our right? The one in the red, with the headphones? The one sunning herself on the rocks?
JOHN: Yeah, yeah, I see 'em.
JACK: They're watchin' us.
John turns to look. He sees a very overweight man coming out of the water, who also seems to be interested in them.
JACK: They like to get real close.
Jack takes the eagle pin off of his jacket. He drops it into the water.
JACK: Listen, a global alliance has been set up to track our wormhole. Ray Wilson's been put in charge by the Pentagon.
JOHN: What the hell does he want from me?
JACK: He wants you relaxed so that I can tell whether or not you're really my son. And he wants to know everything you know about the wormhole and everything you saw on the other side.
JOHN: Aw, gimme a break, Dad, I'll tell him everything, you know that.
JACK: I know that.
John takes the ring on the chain, out of his pocket and hands it to Jack.
JOHN: I kept that safe, for you. Don't know if it brought me luck, but, it saved my ass.
JACK: You know, when you disappeared in Farscape One, I....had to deal with the possibility that you might not be alive.
JOHN: Well, now you know. Now you know how I felt as a kid, every time you went on a mission.
JACK: Come on, son. We got a lot of work to do.
Helicopters buzz busily around the building. Cobb looks at a screen, regarding the wormhole. John snacks on a chocolate bar, while talking to Wilson, as they walk through the building.
JOHN: They have...worlds out there. People out there, that you wouldn't believe. But they do not have chocolate. Hang on a second.
John approaches a tech who is trying to figure out a Moya component on the module.
JOHN: Hey, no. Don't do it like that. It's a propulsion fin, it's part of the Hetch drive, okay?
TECH: Yes, Sir.
John starts to walk way, but stops short.
JOHN to self: Deja vu. [to tech] Have we met?
TECH: Yes, sir, last year in the Simpson Desert. Uh... when you were down there for the shuttle tests.
JOHN: You were with Cobb, right?
TECH: Yes, Sir.
JOHN: [nods] Right. Well, it's um...it's good to see you again.
SCENE I
The transport pod flies onto Earth.
COBB to Wilson: Sir!
WILSON: What's going on?
COBB: Strat comm from sector three, Sir. Something else has come through the wormhole.
WILSON: [to another soldier, about John] Bring him!! [breathes heavily] [to Cobb] What've we got?
COBB: There's an unidentified ship tracking in on the same trajectory as the Farscape module. F16's are scrambling for a visual.
WILSON to John: Are they here for you?
JOHN: What?
WILSON: Are they here to save you?
JOHN: I don't know who-
WILSON cuts in: Who is it?!
He shoves him in front of a monitor.
WILSON: Who is that?!
JOHN: Look, I can't see what-
WILSON cuts in: Who is it?!
JOHN: Who's on first, what's on second, I don't know! I can't see 'em!!
COBB: F16's locked and ready.
The transport pod becomes clear on the screen.
JOHN: Wait. That's Moya's transport pod. Tell 'em not to fire.
WILSON: Are they here to attack us?
JOHN: No, they're not here to harm us, Wilson, just tell them not to fire!
WILSON: That's not my call, Crichton!
JOHN: Tell them Wilson, they don't have any weapons on board the transport! Tell them not to fire!
They stare at each other for several seconds.
WILSON: Tell them not to fire.
The transport comes in for a landing.
Later. Medical crew, and soldiers bring in the Moya crew. Each lays on a stretcher. They're wheeled across the room.
Later. The crew sits with John inside the cell.
AERYN: After you left, your Earth disappeared through the wormhole.
RYGEL: It was her idea to see what was going on.
WILSON: What are they saying, Crichton?
Outside the cell, everyone hears Rygel in his native tongue. He continues.
RYGEL: But don't think for a minute we were going after you!
They hear Aeryn in her tongue.
AERYN: I just wanted to get a closer look. But the wormhole caught us and pulled us in. There was nothing I could do.
JOHN: Rygel. You okay?
RYGEL: No. I'm frelling sick!
WILSON: What are they saying?!
JOHN: They're scared Wilson, that's what they're saying.
RYGEL: I'm not scared! I'm sick! What the yotz did you give me?!
D'argo makes an attack at the walls of the cell.
JACK: Son, are you okay in there?
JOHN: I'm fine.
D'argo growls.
JOHN: It's the tranquilizer, Rygel. That's-that's what's makin' you sick. It'll run off soon, you're gonna be okay.
RYGEL: Why are they treating me like this?
JOHN: They're freaking out. You're an alien and.......they're freaking out.
D'ARGO: I vowed I would never be taken prisoner again.
JOHN: You're not a prisoner. Trust me. I'm gonna take care of you guys.
RYGEL: Crichton. I feel frelling terrible.
JOHN: Yeah. I'm gonna get someone in here for you, Rygel.
John goes to the door and knocks. He exits.
John sits in a break area. Jack is with him.
JOHN: What's going on? What's takin' so long?
JACK: Relax, son.
JOHN: And do what, Dad? Re - read a magazine? They're all seven months old, Dad! They don't want me to have any idea what's goin' on.
JACK: If what you say about those aliens is true....they can help us unlock the universe. You're positive they're not here to harm us?
JOHN: No. They came lookin' for me. They were worried.
JACK: You trust 'em?
JOHN: A lot more than I trust Wilson. I like 'em, Dad. They're my friends.
COBB: Sir. We need you in the medical unit.
JOHN: What's the matter?
COBB: I think you should see this.
They all enter the medical unit. Laying on the table, is Rygel's corpse. His entire chest has been laid open. His organs clearly visible. John sees Wilson looking in the window of the medical unit.
John storms across the room to Wilson. He grabs a stack of papers and flings them at him.
JOHN: Wilson!! We've spent our lives waiting for this moment! We sent Voyager, we left we left damn greeting cards on the moon, and as soon as they get here, look at what you're doing!! They can help us. Just take a step back, and you look at what you're doing. You think about it!
WILSON: Don't worry, I've thought of everything, Commander.
Wilson exits.
JOHN: You make me sick.
John talks to Aeryn and D'argo about what happened.
JOHN: Official word is....Rygel died from allergic reaction to the tranquilizer.
D'ARGO: And what do you think happened?
JOHN: It doesn't...matter what I think, D'argo. [pause] No. I think they killed him.
D'ARGO: You know that those animals killed him!
AERYN: And then they cut him open.
JOHN: They said they were just trying to re-start his heart.
D'ARGO: They were studying him! Like an animal. Like an alien. Which one of us do you think they'll kill next, Crichton?!
JOHN: D'argo, it - it's not gonna go down like that. [shakes head] Look, I know that you have no reason to trust me -
D'ARGO cuts in: You're right! I don't trust you! But you tell those humans that when they come for me, I'll kill them.
JOHN: D'argo. Don't -
D'ARGO cuts in: We've tried it your way, and one of us is dead. Go.
John crouches in front of Aeryn.
JOHN: Aeryn.
AERYN: You know, Crichton....Peacekeepers wouldn't even kill their prisoners to study them. D'argo's right. [shakes head] Just go.
He looks at each of them, hangs his head slightly, then exits.
JOHN: Let me out of here.
John stands outside the building. Jack approaches him.
JACK: Son.
JOHN: I gave 'em my word, Dad. I told 'em I'd take care of 'em.
JACK: [shakes head] You were naive to think you could protect them from people like Wilson.
JOHN: I need a favor, Dad.
JACK: [nods] Name it.
JOHN: I want you to call in every marker...that you have. Every General, every Under Secretary, every Pentagon mistress, you tell them what's goin' on, here. And you get them to stop it.
JACK: What are you gonna do, son?
JOHN: I'm just gonna plead with Wilson. I'm gonna....beg for their lives.
JACK: No, no. I know that look, John! You be careful.
JOHN: I'm just gonna make him understand, Dad.
JACK: Son, are you willing to die for those creatures in there?
JOHN: I gave my word.
John enters the building.
John walks by his module. He walks by the cell, and into the medical unit. There's several white towels laying on the table. He walks around the table slightly, and sees a soldier laying there. He crouches down to check on him. Aeryn comes up behind him, crouches to him, and points a rifle at his head.
AERYN: Did I kill him?
JOHN: No.
AERYN: Are you with me? Or them?
JOHN: I'm with you, Aeryn. Trust me. Put down the gun.
She slowly angles it away from him.
JOHN: Do they know you're out?
AERYN: They took D'argo somewhere, and when the guard came back for me, I was ready for him.
JOHN: Where'd they take him?
AERYN: I don't know, but I'm not waiting for them to come back.
JOHN: Alright, then. Let's move.
John exits, Aeryn follows.
Further into the building, Aeryn disables a soldier. John approaches Cobb in the break room.
JOHN: Hey, Cobb. You find out who won the Super Bowl, yet?
COBB: What do you want, Crichton?
Cobb finally looks up from the paper he was reading. John looks back at him. Aeryn enters from a side door and holds a gun on Cobb. She speaks to him in her language.
COBB: What is she doing here?
She speaks again.
COBB: What did she say?
JOHN: She says that she wants to shoot you, Cobb. I don't know if it's a good idea, or not, but I figure since you've pushed us this far, it doesn't really matter, does it? Where's D'argo?
COBB: They flew him to another base. He's gone Crichton, you can't save him.
Aeryn hits him on the head with the butt of her gun. John rushes over, sets him up and rips off his identity badge.
JOHN: If you'd only been reasonable! You're wrong. In what you're doing here, Cobb. You're wrong.
He holds a gun to Cobb.
COBB: You're not gonna shoot me, are ya?
John stares a moment, then knocks him out with his gun.
JOHN: You're wrong!
He kicks him as he and Aeryn exit the room.
JOHN: That's for Rygel.
John and Aeryn travel down the sidewalk, in the rain.
JOHN: Aeryn, pick it up, I wanna get outta this rain. This is the place.
Aeryn opens her mouth and lets the raindrops fall into her mouth.
AERYN: Rain. Is that what you call this? I like it.
JOHN: Aeryn!
He uses Cobb's badge to jimmy the lock.
AERYN: Why this place?
JOHN: My dad and I stayed here last year. He said we could use it as a safe house.
AERYN: Your father told you about this place?!
JOHN: Yup.
AERYN: Crichton, he is with them. This is the first place they will look for us!
JOHN: I don't think so. I trust him.
He finally manages to get the lock undone.
JOHN: Ladies first.M
SCENE I
John looks out the room window, at the hazy city and overcast sky. Thunder rumbles. Aeryn holds a bottle and looks at it.
AERYN: So, what's this?
JOHN: It's beer. Alcohol. Trust me. It's just what we need, right now. Down the hatch.
He takes a swig of his. She looks at him, smiles slightly.
AERYN: Down the hatch.
She takes a swig of hers.
JOHN: You like it?
AERYN: Yes. [drinks] It's like Fellip nectar. Fellip's a creature on Tarsus, and they get the nectar from-
JOHN cuts in: Aeryn, please. [shakes head] Don't tell me where it comes from, just drink the beer. [pause] Sorry.
AERYN: What for?
JOHN: Everything. What's happened here. Getting you stuck on Moya. I mean, if it wasn't for me, you'd still be the....happy little Peacekeeper dominating the lesser races.
AERYN: Mm. I've got a lot to blame you for, Crichton.
JOHN: [softly] Look at that.
AERYN: What?
JOHN: That's it. Earth. Minus the sunshine.
AERYN: You know, you were right. It's actually very beautiful.
John sits down beside her. They sit shoulder to shoulder.
JOHN: Were you scared......to join me, when I left Moya?
AERYN: [nods] Yes. I won't be re-captured, Crichton. They will have to kill me, if they come to take me, tomorrow.
JOHN: I know.
He tilts his head towards her. He sighs and lays his head on her shoulder. He presses his lips on her shoulder, then gently pushes her head with his, so that she tips her head to the side. Their faces are close, on the verge of a kiss, but not quite. They play at this for several moments. Finally, the kiss gently.
Morning. The sun shines brightly over the city. Aeryn sits in a chair, looking over a city map. John groans from the bed.
AERYN: Get out of bed, John.
JOHN: [Groans] Morning.
AERYN: Come on. I've worked out that plan we talked about.
JOHN: Aeryn. Um....about last night.
AERYN: Yes, it's fine John, it's just not top priority, right now. I've gone through all of these pictures and I've found a few places that seem to be uninhabited enough to hide in.
JOHN: Aeryn.
She looks at him.
JOHN: You're right. We um.....we have to find a place to hide.
AERYN: Let's go.
JOHN: No-no-no-no. You're not goin' anywhere, dressed like that.
She looks at her clothes (a blue dress shirt and black jacket) and looks at him.
Later.
AERYN: Are you sure about this?
JOHN: You look fine. But we got-
He cuts off to knocking at the door. They both rush to the door, Aeryn pulling her gun.
JACK: John?
JOHN: It's my father.
AERYN: I knew it! He's betrayed us! There'll be soldiers outside!
JOHN: No, he won't. I trust him.
AERYN: I don't!
John opens the door, Jack enters, and John closes the door.
JACK: Are you okay, son?
JOHN: Yeah. Remember Aeryn Sun?
JACK: We actually never met.
Aeryn speaks in her language.
JACK: What's she sayin'?
JOHN: He doesn't have a gun.
Aeryn speaks.
JOHN: I'm not gonna search him!
Aeryn huffs and continues to keep her gun drawn on Jack.
JACK: Is she ever gonna put that down?
JOHN: I don't think so. What are you doin' here? Does Wilson know you're here?
JACK: No. It's not gonna take them long to start searching places we've been, before.
JOHN: Did you talk to anybody for us?
JACK: [nods] [softly] Everybody. [normal] No one's gonna help us son. It's too dangerous.
JOHN: And what about you?
JACK: I don't matter in this. Official word is that these aliens never existed. D'argo's on his way to a military base in Utah, and the warehouse has been swept clean.
Aeryn speaks angrily.
JOHN cuts in: Aeryn! Back off. Please.
JACK: Listen. [hands John money] The two of you have to get out of town, and you've got to find someplace that's safe. I'll hold them off here as long as I can.
JOHN: No. No, I don't want you to cover for me.
JACK: This is the only play, son. You're in this too deep. They're not gonna just let you walk away. Look, at least this time I get to say goodbye.
JOHN: I will um....we'll hole up somewhere and I'll uh....I'll contact you.
JACK: No. If I know anything.....they'll try to make me tell. You just go.
JOHN: Goodbye, Dad.
Jack nods.
John grabs his things, and exits. Aeryn follows suit, but stops in front of Jack. She speaks to him kindly. She begins to exit.
JACK: Thank you, Aeryn Sun.
Aeryn stops short, looks at him and walks up to him. She stares at him a moment, and then exits.
John and Aeryn walk through the city.
AERYN: Why is everyone, looking at me?
JOHN: Because they think you look good.
The girl from the beach walks past them. John turns to watch her.
AERYN: What?
JOHN: That girl. She was on the beach the other day, when I crash landed. That one.
AERYN: So?
JOHN: I think I know her, I think......we went to high school together. It was only for a couple of weeks, we never talked, but....
Aeryn giggles.
JOHN: Yeah, yeah, she looks familiar.
Aeryn giggles again.
John stops at a newspaper stand.
NEWSPAPER MAN: Hi, can I help you, mate?
John starts going through the stacks of magazines, tossing one after another, aside.
JOHN: They're all seven months old. Why are they all seven months old?
AERYN: John, stop it.
JOHN: I've seen all these before, they're from when I left!
AERYN: What are you doing, John?!
JOHN to newspaper man: I know you, don't I?
NEWSPAPER MAN: What?
JOHN: Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah, you're the guy on the beach the other day!
AERYN: [softly] Shh! Just keep your voice down!
NEWSPAPER MAN: Not me.
JOHN: I used to ride...my bike...past your house, in the fifth grade!
NEWSPAPER MAN: I don't know what you're talkin' about! I've never seen you before in my life!
JOHN: Everybody here, Aeryn, I know them all. I know Wilson, I know Cobb, I know you!
AERYN: [softly] John, stop it! Keep your voice down! What are you doing?
JOHN: I know everyone!
He pulls a gun out of his bag.
JOHN: Get away from me, Aeryn! Get away! Back off! Every place I've been, I've been there before. Every. Place.
He turns and sees a man behind him.
JOHN: Greg Kukonus, I dated your sister!!
John runs off.
SCENE I
John storms into a pool hall.
JOHN: Yeah! Here we go! [laughs] This is exactly the way I remember it! I know all you guys, don't I? [nods] It's a little out of context.
He draws his gun on a man to his side. A girl hides behind the man.
JOHN: But I know you.
He walks up to a table. He picks up a mug of beer.
JOHN: How the hell you been?
He takes a drink of the beer. He takes a cigarette from an elderly woman sitting there, and snuffs it out.
JOHN: Quit. And what the hell are you doin' here? Yeah, I've been here.
He walks over to the men's bathroom.
JOHN: Been in there.
He slams the door open. Men inside are using it. They stare at him.
JOHN: Nothin' new.
He starts to exit the pool hall. But he stops short.
JOHN: But I've never been in there.
He turns and looks at the ladies room door. He strides over and kicks it open. He's greeted by a wall of orange light.
The facility where they kept everyone is now eerily silent. John storms up to the building. Wilson pulls a gun.
WILSON: Just stop!
JOHN: Make me. You're not gonna shoot, you're not even Wilson.
WILSON: Where's the female alien?
JOHN: I'm goin' to talk to the man in charge, and we both know it ain't you.
John enters the building. It's empty, except for Jack, who is sitting in a chair in the middle of the room. John walks up beside him and is silent for a moment.
JOHN: Who are you?
JACK: You did well, John. Most species don't do as well.
JOHN: What is all this?
JACK: Everything here is a physical creation from your memory.
JOHN: But you're not real.
JACK: Well. I'm not your father.
JOHN: And what about my friends?
JACK: They're real. Living matter. They were investigating the wormhole we'd created from your memory. So, we decided to use them in our trial.
D'argo and Rygel wait in the cell.
D'ARGO: Crichton. Enough is enough.
JOHN: D'argo!
D'ARGO: Get us back home.
JOHN: Ry-Rygel. They didn't kill you.
RYGEL: Kill me? [laughs] These people treated me splendidly!! They have me Marjoles Crichton! Lovely Hynerian Marjoles!! Mmmmmmm!
Rygel slurps down what looks like snails.
RYGEL: Whoever you are [munching] I thank you!!
JACK: Of course we didn't kill him. We created his corpse.
JOHN: Why? Why would you make me think....that he was dead?
JACK: We needed a...human reaction, John. Your reaction.
John grabs him by the shirt and throws him against a pillar.
JOHN: You made me think you were my father!!
A large chuck of Jack's shirt comes loose in John's hands. He drops it. What he sees underneath is not human. John is in complete shock.
JACK: I'm sorry. For the trial to have value, you had to believe everything. Let me show you.
Jack walks a few steps away. John's trying to make it all make sense.
JOHN: Are we...anywhere near Earth?
JACK: Actually, we're not far from Moya. We brought you here....to recreate your memory.
JOHN: Well, if you can make all this.....why not just...make a wormhole to take you to Earth?
JACK: That would use all our remaining power. We only have enough left, to transport our race, one last time. We had to be certain of how we would be received.
Jack walks through a doorway. John follows.
He enters a large room that almost looks like a giant empty tank. He sees several odd shapes hanging from the ceiling. He walks further into the room and looks up at one of the objects. The object opens its eyes.
JACK: Though space is without boundaries, there are but a few planets where we can live.
JOHN: So you're lookin' to take over someone else's?
JACK: Not take over. Cohabitate. To replenish our hive. The Ancients have stories of a world...that will welcome us. We can only hope they're true. You can move closer.
JOHN: Thanks. Close enough.
JACK: We had to find out whether humans would welcome us, or fight us.
John sees images from his childhood, floating above him.
JOHN: You stole my memories.
JACK: I'm sorry to have taken this form. But I thought the best spy would be a father, as seen through his son's eyes.
JOHN: You stole my memories.
JACK: We had no choice.
JOHN: Show me. What you really look like.
Jack nods. He walks to the side. John walks away from that side. A bright light shines down from above. John blinks at it. When it fades, The Ancient can be seen in it's true form. A creature relatively the same in height as John. It's body and head resembles a bug, but it stands on two legs, like a human.
ANCIENT: Many of us hope that Earth might be our welcoming place. If all people were like you, maybe it could be. But they're not. In your memory, we saw millions of Wilson's and Cobb's. It also lead us to a familiar conclusion.
JOHN: Which was?
ANCIENT: That the highest life form on the planet, is also the most destructive. And your humans would kill us.
John looks up a moment at the fading light in the eyes of the Ancient, there.
JOHN: So what will you do, now?
ANCIENT: What we've done since before I was hatched. We continue searching for a home.
JOHN: So will I.
John starts to exit.
ANCIENT: Here.
The Ancient holds up the ring and chain. John walks over and takes it.
JOHN: Thanks.
John walks to the door. When he opens it, the ocean roars before him.
ANCIENT: Maybe we'll meet again, one day, John.
JOHN: Maybe.
END OF EPISODE.
